Swift House 1- Fall 1

Meet the Swift House 1 Residents: Ericka, Zaida, and James Swift
Update Written by: Ericka Swift

I arrived with my two kids at the house that the $20,000 had gotten us and was not so pleased, but not surprised. The people here rely too much on money. So the prices of things goes up up up. I have two kids to raise with the money I have left. But I suppose it beats that tiny little apartment I was initially set up with before they realized I had two kids.

Zaida and James apparently did not really care that they were not in the best house possible and were more inclined to socialize. I was pleased to find that SimCity had decided to furnish all of us with a free computer in order to make job hunting easier as we lived so far away. I was able to locate a job in the medical field as an Emergency Medical Technician.

During lunch on the day we arrived, James expressed his hope that he would be able to do more complex math such as algebra. He felt the education system in the city was holding him back and I agreed. If I have to resort to putting my kids in private school I will do so.

Part of the group of people who showed up to welcome us to the area was my next door neighbor, Trent Ratliff. He informed me that he was raising his teenage nephew after the untimely death of his sister and her husband in a car crash. I expressed my sympathy for his loss and for his nephew’s loss and told him if he needed anything to let me know. In my culture, men don’t raise children, so I was vaguely interested in how well his nephew Sean would be raised.

James must have found a stray cat as when I entered the house I saw him playing with a cat. I told him as long as the cat didn’t scratch the furniture that he was allowed to play with the cat inside. If it started scratching the furniture the cat would have to leave. I did not have the money to replace the furniture destroyed by a stray cat.

I did spend some time playing with my daughter that afternoon. I can’t believe the rules of this society are forcing me to have my daughter live somewhere else in order for my son to move back in if I want to keep the same name in the house. Though, I suppose it will give me a glimpse into how this culture works when it comes to raising kids.

Zaida and James brought home a classmate from school on their first day. I was happy that they were making friends and getting to know the local customs. It appears the kids here are more accepting of the fact that Zaida and James are aliens and not human and do not treat the two differently. The two of them seemed a lot happier coming home from school here than they ever did at the school in SimCity.

After the friend from school left, I had Zaida and James work on their homework. Zaida had gotten into her pajamas at this time since their friend had stayed here for dinner and the two had started their homework late. Zaida has a tendency to get into her pajamas after dinner and after any company has left for the day. The two of them were challenged by their homework for the first time in ages. Maybe I will not have to send them to private school after all.

Every morning, I woke the kids up and they ate breakfast at the table. Breakfast helps children focus on their school work. This allows them to do the best that they can do in school. Today I gave them cereal since the two of them both got out of bed later than they should have. I just hope this doesn’t become a habit.

Once again, the two of them brought home a friend. This time it was a local, Titus Bruton. The two of them enjoyed playing a few games of chess before they resorted to more human games such as tag and cops and robbers. That was all that happened this season that was worth reporting.
